Albufera
Albufera

The Albufera Natural Park is a protected natural area and natural heritage of Spain.

This wetland is a coastal lagoon located on the Mediterranean coast with 223km2 of rice fields. In addition, this place is a place for many species of migratory birds, so it is considered to have a very important natural value, because there are endangered species.

The greatest splendor of this place was in 1250 during the Islamic stage of the region. The Albufera was a gift to the Emir of Cordoba, thanks to an alliance between the Christian and Arab kingdoms.

Therefore, the Arab kingdom built a set of canals and irrigation systems very advanced for the time, in this way, in the park rice and fishing activity could be grown at the same time.

Currently, it is possible to visit the natural park for free and observe the rice fields and the different special flora and fauna of the region.

Our recommendation is that you can visit the wetlands by boat and enjoy a good paella in the nearby restaurants.
